Tonight, a lingering melody echoes in my head.
Will I master it— or will it master me?
A short piece inspired by “Because I Listened to Bach’s Melody at Night” and the fairy tale “The Red Shoes.”
A devoted fan of Sakanaction’s “Because I Listened to Bach’s Melody at Night,” I found myself haunted by its lingering melodic line — as if I were trapped in The Red Shoes, forced to dance in an endless frenzy. From that sensation, the idea for this piece was born.
It is a work that visualizes my own imagination — a vision I had long dreamed of realizing in an intimate small-theatre setting.
Created as an homage to the music video of “Because I Listened to Bach’s Melody at Night,” the piece features five dancers wearing uncanny red wigs, repeating minimal, almost mechanical movements that gradually draw a young girl into their eerie world.
This work was performed as part of Good Day, a performance project I organized with my university peers to fulfill what the pandemic once denied us: the chance to share our creations publicly and to explore dance within a small-theatre space.
